Indian weddings have always been under the limelight, be it for their unique wedding rituals or as lately observed, some out-of-the-box ideas. Our social media accounts were recently flooded with viral videos of some of the eye-catching weddings.

Like the humorous mix-up of brides due to an unexpected power cut or an Indian Navy officer doing push-ups during his wedding certainly gave us a cause to laugh at. But recently a viral video doing rounds on social media made us nostalgic. Yes! This was a video which certainly broke all stereotypes, especially the patriarchal set-up of our society and created a new practice.

In Indian weddings it is a custom that women touch their husband’s feet. But this wedding took everyone by surprise including the bride herself! An age of custom was turned down by the groom in seconds when he turned to his bride and touched her feet.

Who doesn’t want to reflect their sentiments by some small meaningful actions? The groom Arnav Roy wanted to make this wedding a memorable one for his bride Diti Garodia. Breaking all the traditional norms, Arnav immediately touched Diti’s feet after tying the nuptial knot.

Although their wedding was solemnised last november, the couple recently took to social media to share their wedding clip. With love and blessings pouring in from nearly every nook and corner of the country the viral clip has been doing rounds on social media for a week now.

Diti shared her experience after her wedding clip went viral. She went ahead to describe how Arnav’s gesture was not received well by pandit ji and how he fell in a state of awe after seeing Arnav touching Diti’s feet. She also mentioned ,”Towards the end of our wedding ceremony, pandit ji whispered in her ear, that I am really a very lucky girl.

Another wedding stereotype was surpassed by Katrina Kaif in her wedding with Vicky Kaushal. In a big fat Indian wedding, “Phoolon ki chaadar” is held by the male members of the family. But Katrina Kaif chose to turn this notion down. She called upon her bridesmaids and her sisters to cover her with “Phoolon ki chaadar” as she made her bridal entry.

In 2021, Actress Dia Mirza married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi. Their wedding ceremony did not begin and conclude like any other normal Indian wedding. The couple called upon a female priest for their wedding day rituals. Moreover, they decided not to have a “Vidaai” and a “Kanyadaan” as it projects the bride being handed over as an object.

Ranbir And Alia’s At-Home Wedding

The much awaited wedding of Bollywood, much like their movie Brahmastra and the infamously trending song, Kesariya, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt got married after years of dating in the exact same house where they spent years growing their relationship. Their balcony which Alia famously quoted, ‘their favorite spot’, the balcony in which they got married, had seen years of them cultivating their relationship. Unlike the buzz of high end venues and lavish weddings, these two got married in the place they love – their home and nothing’s more beautiful and inspiring than that, given Indian weddings and their luxury traditions.

We hope that the year 2022 gives us some glimpses of more weddings like these and inspire all of us to break the barriers and let the breeze of positive change flow in.
