Games to Play this Diwali


Diwali is supposed to be fun and frolic so in order to have even more joyous Diwali, there is a trend of partying a day before diwali. To have an amazing Diwali party, there are different fun activities like games, dance etc. We have created a list of games for you to enjoy this festival of lights.

1. Cards

Simple card games or UNO cards are generally played on Diwali and is a popular game played. It is associated with gambling and on the festival of lights, this not only impresses Goddess Lakshmi but also ensures her goodwill.

2. Charades

Dumb charades is a word (basically movie) guessing game in which all the people are divided into two teams. One member from a team is given a word (or a movie) by the other team and he/she has to enact that in order that his/her team guess the word (or movie).

3. Pass the Parcel

Make the participants sit in a circle and a parcel (may be a cushion or a box) is circulated and the music is played. The parcel is passed till the music plays and as the music stops, the person who has parcel in his hand gets out of the game and is given a punishment.

4. Never Have I Ever

Never Have I Ever, also known as ‘Ten Fingers’ is played when there is a group of people. Every player is supposed to have a glass filled with any drink. A person speaks a statement which he has never done in his life like ‘ Never have ever been to Europe’ and anyone who has done that are supposed to take a sip from their glass.

5. Jenga

Jenga is quite a trendy game, generally found at cafes. It is played by two players or two groups of players. It is quite an enjoyable game.

6. Housie

Housie or Tambola is generally played at get togethers. You can add some twists like ‘+1’ or ‘-1’ or ‘mad’ (if the number comes 23, then on the chit 32 is to be cut) and enjoy this common game in a unique manner. Everyone who wins the game would definitely be getting monetary gifts but they could also get punishments like- dancing or mimicry.

7. Truth and Dare

Truth and Dare is an extremely interesting game. All the people are made to sit in a circle and a table is placed at the centre. A bottle is twirled and when it stops, the person facing the upper side would ask a question and the person facing the lower part would be asked a question depending upon what he/she has chosen- truth or dare.

8. Musical Chairs

Musical Chairs is a game which we generally used to play in our childhood at birthday parties. But, here there is a twist. Prepare a list of things associated with diwali and write one on each chit. Prepare two sets of the same. Keep one set in a bowl and paste a chit at each chair. Each participant would have to pick one chit and find that chair on which the same chit is pasted (before the music stops).

One Minute Games

(i) Alphabetical Diyas

Take 26 diyas and write an alphabet on each diya. Mix them and ask the participants to arrange them in alphabetical order in 1 minute. The one who does the maximum arrangement in the stipulated time would be the winner.

(ii) Blowing the Candles

Light a few candles and place them on a table at a distance of 30cm each. Blindfold the player and make him/her stand at a distance of 1 feet from the table. Ask him/her to blow the candles. The one who blows the maximum candles would be the winner.
