Raksha Bandhan is a popular, traditionally Hindu, annual rite celebrated in South Asia, and among people around the world influenced by Hindu culture. On this day, sisters of all ages tie a talisman, or amulet, called the rakhi, around the wrists of their brothers, symbolically protecting them, receiving a gift in return, and traditionally investing the brothers with a share of the responsibility of their potential care.

Do you know why is it celebrated or when was it started?
NO?
Let’s have answers to such questions and satisfy our curiosities.
Q.1. What is Rakhi?
It is a great sacred verse of unity, whuch acts as a symbol of life’s advancement and a leading messenger of togetherness. Rakhi strengthens the bond of love between brothers and sisters, and revives the emotional bonding. Brahmins change their sacred thread (janoi) on this day, and dedicate themselves once again to the study of the scriptures.
Q.2. Why is Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi) celebrated?
The history of Rakshabandhan dates back to Hindu mythology. As per Hindu mythology, in Mahabharata, Draupadi, had torn the corner of her sari to prevent Lord Krishna’s wrist from bleeding (he had inadvertently hurt himself). Thus, a bond, that of brother and sister developed between them, and then onwards he promised to protect her.

Q.3. When is Rakhi celebrated?
Celebrated on the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Sravana (July-August), this festival celebrates the love of a brother for his sister.
Q.4. What is the best time to tie rakhi?
The best time to tie rakhi is said to be during Aparahna (afternoons). If that is not possible then it can be tied during the Pradosh (starts at sunset and lasts upto 96 minutes after that).
However, the scriptures say that tying the rakhi should not take place during the Bhadra phase (late evening and early morning) of the day since it is believed that during the Bhadra time, certain negative energies are at play.

We hope that clear all your doubts!!
