15+ Entertaining and Exciting House Party Games Ideas

When planning a party, you need to have delicious food and great people. However, if you really want to make your party memorable and a fun experience for years to come, you’ll need some great house party games. Games become the center of attention at every party. As adults, we sometimes overlook the pure joy that can come out of playing a great party game with a room full of friends.

Whether you are looking for a nice, low-activity party game for adults or a wet and wild birthday party game for kids, there are thousands of house party games out there to choose from. By the time it takes you to pick the best one for your party, your guests may have already left. But not to worry, because we have put together a list of the best house party games ever.

1.   Partners in Pen

This game requires a bag full of random objects from the house, a paper, and a pen and guests of course! Divide the guests into pairs, asking them to sit back to back. Hand one of the partners a paper and a pen and hand the bag full of random objects to the other partner. Now ask the player with the bag to describe each object without naming it or telling what is it used for while the other partner tries to draw the object. This game usually ends with many imaginative drawings, and of course a lot of laughs.

2.   Continuing Storybook

This game is likely to end in an outburst of laughter all across the room. All you need for this fun-filled and interactive game is a notebook, a pen, and some guests with crazy imaginations. Start by giving a fun theme to your guests and ask the first person to write a six-line-long or seven-line-long story. Now pass on the paper with just the last line showing and ask the next player to continue the story. Finally read out loud the absolute mess that your guests have created. I am sure there’s no way you can stop yourself from laughing out loud by the end of it.

3.   Bedsheet Ping-pong

Now this is one fun game that everyone is likely to enjoy. Divide your guests into pairs, make a pair hold one side of the bedsheet, while another pair holds the opposite side of the bedsheet, and drop a ping pong in the middle. Both the teams try to move the ping pong ball by lowering or taking the bed sheet higher. The main goal of the game is to make sure the ping pong drops off the bed sheet from the side of your opponent, and hurrah you are the winner!

4.   Guess The Name

The game is simple. In every round, you have to select one person and blindfold them, while scattering everyone else around the entire room. As soon as the blindfolded player collides with any player, they ask who is it? The person being asked the question replies with a funny answer in a different voice. In the end, the player has to guess the name, and thus swap the position. If they are unable to guess, the game goes on till they guessed correctly.

5.   Musical Chairs

Yes, it’s the same musical chairs from when you were a kid, but it can be even more fun now that you’re older. Create a fun song playlist and have one person control the music’s starting and stopping by using a different song each time. For a fantastic twist, add a rule: As long as you’re on a chair with your feet off the ground when the music stops, you’re safe. This will encourage a whole lot of lap-sitting at your party. This sounds fun right!

 6.   Freeze Dance

Make a party playlist that’s fun to dance to. As with musical chairs, choose one person to be in charge of the music. Everyone dances while the music’s playing. When the music shuts off, anyone who doesn’t freeze in place is eliminated. The winner is the person who lasts on the dance floor the longest.

7.   Two truths and a lie

This game is good for playing with people you don’t know that well. Everyone takes a turn saying three statements about themselves: two that are true, and one that’s a lie. The rest of the group members have to guess which one’s the lie. The person who guesses right wins the game!

8.   Name that song

Build a music playlist with songs that your guests have probably heard before like Bollywood music. Start playing a song either at the beginning or the middle and call the person who raises a hand fastest to guess the name of the song. If they guess right, they get a point but if they guessed wrong, they lose a point. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins.

9.   Pick the toothpick

This game gets really interesting and fun when there are many people involved. The things you will need are Toothpick sets (according to the players involved). Keep the toothpick sets on the table after opening their caps.

Each person has to pick the toothpicks from their sets using only their palms. The toothpicks that stick to their palm should be placed on the table. The person who keeps the highest number of toothpicks on the table will be the winner.

 10. Songs with a particular word

This game is really popular among women in India. The player has to write the names of songs that start with a specific word the host assigns. For example, if the specified word is “Party”, then the song names can be “Aaj ki party meri taraf se”, “Abhi to party shuru huyi hai”, etc. You can also make teams and sing the songs instead of writing them down. A scoreboard can be maintained and the team with the highest score would be declared as the winner.

11. Mystery word

This is a fun and exciting game to start at the beginning of a dinner party. Every guest has to put their own name into a pot, and a ridiculous and funny phrase/word/sentence into another pot. Each guest around the table then pulls a name and phrase out of the respective pots and then has to work that phrase into conversation with the chosen person, without being called out for it. For example, if one person pulled out ‘My way or the highway’ and ‘Selena’, they’d have to find a way to tell Selena about the phrase by doing an argument in a fun way without her suspecting.

12. Cards Against Humanity

Everybody knows this funny game, don’t they? It’s an absolute classic (just maybe not one for a dinner party with your parents!) The rules follow a simple ‘Fill in the blank’ style. Everyone is given 10 white cards, which are the options for ‘filling of the blank’. One black card is then drawn, which contains the blank space that people have to fill. Each player then chooses one of their white cards which they think best fills the gap and puts them face down on the table. The person who drew the black cards reads the sentence aloud, filling in the blank with the different options each time, and then chooses the funniest as the winner of that round. The person who wins the most rounds wins the game.

This house party game includes some good old fashioned physical activity for your guests. Arrange an empty cereal box and put it in the middle of the room. All participating players must try and pick the cereal box up using their mouth in any way necessary, but they are not allowed to put their hands on the floor, or any supporting furniture. Continue trying to pick it up with your mouth, and cutting an inch off each time, until someone is crowned the surviving winner.

14. Beer Pong

Another absolute classic. Beer Pong involves attempting to throw a ping pong ball into the opposition’s cup, resulting in them drinking the mocktail or cocktail present inside the cup. At any end of a kitchen table or dining table, put six cups in a triangle shape or any other shape which will make the game more difficult. In teams, take it in turns to throw the ball into your opposition’s cups from your end, just be sure about all the rules regarding the game. Is the ball allowed to bounce? The winning team is the one who lands the ball in all of the opposition’s cups before they do the same to you.
