Arpita Khan, Salman’s younger sister, got married to Aayush Sharma, a Delhi-based businessman, on November 18, 2014, at the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. The wedding was a royal affair and the most talked about event of the year. It had covered all aspects of a dreamy, destination wedding and the fact that it was in a palace made it a real-life fairy-tale wedding!
The wedding was an intimate ceremony with around 250 guests at the venue. Some of the guests who attended the wedding at the palace apart from the families of the bride and groom were Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Hema Malini, Sajid Nadiadwala etc. The guests from the Telugu film industry included Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh and their families. The ceremony took place according to the Hindu-Punjabi traditions and started at around 4.30 pm on the D-Day with Aayush leading the ‘baraat’ and the celebrations continued till late at night. The wedding décor had a pink and white theme.
The ‘mandap’ (aka stage) was decorated in pink and white flowers and the whole palace had pink lighting, which gave the venue a regal look. Arpita looked beautiful in a red and gold lehenga designed by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and Aayush looked dapper in a gold sherwani , studded with Swarovski beads of crystal glass, and designed by Hyderabadi Makhdoom brothers. The golden sherwani was a gift from the Makhdoom brothers to Aayush as a gesture of affection they had for the Khan family.
The wedding was followed by a post-wedding party in the evening. Arpita was seen wearing a gorgeous white lehenga and Aayush looked handsome in a velvet bandhgala. This event saw some amazing performances and fun-filled activities. . Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Varun Dhawan performed at the event and it is said that even Katrina Kaif performed in the grand wedding bash. Singers Mika Singh and Honey Singh made the event lively with their songs as well! The wedding also included a royal feast which encompassed special Hyderabadi dishes as well such as Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, Pathar Ka Gosht (aka meat cooked on stone), Haleem etc. The 150-kg wedding cake made by Mumbai based baker Pooja Dhingra was also a highlight of the wedding!
After a royal celebration of the wedding, the couple hosted a wedding reception on 21 November 2014, at the indoor Ballroom of Taj Lands End, Mumbai. The venue managers made sure that the security was very tight and also blocked all the entrances leading to the Ballroom for the public, to ensure smooth functioning of the event. They chose a Victorian theme for the décor with floral arrangement, drapes etc. Arpita looked stunning in a heavily embellished lehenga and Aayush looked smart in a black blazer.
The event saw several guests from the film fraternity. Some of the celebrities who attended the event apart from the family members of the bride and groom were Sharukh Khan, Mukesh and Nita Ambani, Ajay Devgn, Karishma Kapoor, Farkhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Sonakshi Sinha, Jacqueline Fernandez, Govinda, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia D’Souza, Anil Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra, Lara Dutta, Mahesh Bhupathi, Hrithik Roshan, Shraddha Kapoor etc.
All the wedding events were planned meticulously and executed to perfection. Kudos to the Taj Group of hotels for making this royal wedding dream a reality.
